Harkins Theatres will kick off the opening of Queen Creek 14 on Thursday, March 19, with a weekend-long grand opening celebration. From Thursday through Sunday, March 22, guests can take part in various events and receive prizes, including a chance to win free movies for a year, according to a press release from the Arizona-based movie theater chain.
Harkins Queen Creek 14 is in the Queen Creek Marketplace, 21398 S. Ellsworth Loop Road. Tickets and show times will be available at www.harkinstheatres.com on Tuesday, March 10.
The festivities will begin at 7 p.m. March 19, when the theater-chain’s owner, Dan Harkins, will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony and purchase the first tickets, according to the release. The ceremony will be followed by the premiere of the film “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” at 8 p.m. and free giveaways.
The film will open nationwide Friday, March 20, according to its website. It stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer.
That grand opening night’s activities also will include:
•Free 2015 Harkins Loyalty Cups to the first 100 ticket-holders. The cup is good for $1.50 soda refills during each visit to the movies through Dec. 31.
•Appearances by costumed characters from the films “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” and “Cinderella.”
Activities throughout the weekend will include:

•Harkins’ scratch-and-win cards to all ticket-holders. Every card is a winner, with the chance to win free concession vouchers, movie collectibles, Harkins Theatres gift cards and an iPad mini. One winner will receive a year’s worth of free movies.
Harkins Queen Creek 14 will be the home of a limited edition replica of Cinderella’s glass slipper. Movie-goers can take pictures with the slipper at the theater, post it on Facebook using #Harkinscinderella and be entered for a chance to win the famous footwear.
Each of the 14 stadium-seated auditoriums at Harkins Queen Creek 14 will feature innovative, luxury amenities such as the Harkins Ultimate Rocker, wall-to-wall screens and state-of-the-art digital projection and sound technology.
The multiplex also will be home to Harkins’ 11th PlayCenter. The PlayCenter is an in-lobby childcare facility where for $6, children can play in a safe, secure environment supervised by certified professionals while parents watch a movie.
The theater also will offer a gourmet snack bar with an expanded menu that will include hot food selections such as Freschetta pizzas, White Castle cheeseburgers, churros and popcorn chicken.
Celebrating more than 81 years in Arizona and headquartered in Scottsdale, Harkins Theatres is the largest family-owned theater chain in the country, according to a press release.
