Noland Macy, a senior at Higley High School, was named the Arizona Eastern Valley ROTC Cadet of the Year during a celebration of ROTC programs. Cadet Macy was selected from more than 20 ROTC programs in the East Valley.
“It is a very special honor for him and our program at Higley High School,” said his teacher, Senior Master Sgt.Daniel Alltop. “He’s an extraordinary cadet, truly one of the best.”
Cadet Macy graduated on May 21 and he plans to join the U.S. Air Force to become a survival, evasion, resistance and escape specialist.
Sossaman Middle School art selected for Scottsdale gala
Five Sossaman Middle School, 18655 E. Jacaranda Blvd., students were chosen to have their artwork displayed and auctioned April 28 at the Cherishing Arts Initiative Contest Gala at the Scottsdale Performing Arts Center. The Cherishing Arts Initiative Art Contest was designed to raise awareness of neglected, abused and homeless children in Arizona and raise money for the Crisis Nursery. The students whose works were selected for display from 500 entries across the state were: Elizabeth Fuchs, Stephanie Kim, Taylor Lubin, Darlene Ngo, and Chloe Ramirez. Ms. Kim was presented with the first place award in the seventh-ninth grade category by Arizona State Sen. Adam Driggs.
