The Kiwanis Club of Queen Creek held its Installation Banquet Oct. 1 at the San Tan Café to install new officers for the 2016-17 year and present awards and honors for the previous year. Among the honored guests were Lt. Gov. for Division 18 Dawn Lang and her husband, Mike; Past Southwest District Gov. Ron Smith and his wife, Joanne; and members of the Kiwanis Club of Superstition.
The installation of officers was conducted by Ms. Lang. The following officers and board members were installed: Jim Skiotes, president; Troy Young, president elect; Jerry Waling, past president; Rose Ann Haw, secretary; Monica O’Toole, treasurer; and board members Andrea Reyes, Jon Morris, George Mulloy and Megan Morris.
Past President Waling presented Ms. Reyes, Miguel Garcia, Mr. Skiotes and Stephanie Carasco with distinguished service Awards for outstanding contributions to the club. Jon and Megan Morris were honored as the outstanding new members. Mr. Mulloy was recognized as the Kiwanian of the Year and Mr. Young received the Zeller medallion for his help with the Eliminate Project.
Jerry Chadwick was honored for his many years of service to the club and received the Southwest District Kachina medallion. A special award was presented to Ms. Haw, who retired as the district administrator after 15 years of dedicated service.
President Skiotes has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Queen Creek since 2010 and Kiwanis since 1970. He has set some lofty goals for this year, according to a press release.
“As president I have several goals for our club. One is to increase our membership to 35 members so we can have greater impact on our community and expand our youth programs,” he said in the release. “Two is to increase our income to be able to provide more services to the youth of our community. Three is to implement the strategic plan that was developed and adopted last year by becoming more involved in meeting the needs of the town of Queen Creek, the school district and the chamber of commerce.”
