Freeway-improvement projects will require closures or lane restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (Jan. 29-Feb. 1). The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers plan ahead, consider alternate routes or adjust travel schedules and use caution in work zones while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Eastbound Interstate 10 closed between Interstate 17 (Stack Interchange) and Washington Street from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 30) for tunnel maintenance. Southbound State Route 51 and westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) ramps to eastbound I-10 also closed. Consider alternate routes. Eastbound I-10 traffic will detour to southbound I-17 at the Stack Interchange and reconnect with I-10 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
  • Westbound Interstate 10 closed between Interstate 17 (Split Interchange) near Sky Harbor Airport and Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 31) for tunnel maintenance. Southbound State Route 51 and westbound Loop 202 HOV-lane ramps to westbound I-10 also closed. Westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard ramp to westbound I-10 closed. Consider alternate routes. Westbound I-10 traffic will detour to northbound I-17 at the Split Interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and reconnect with I-10 at the Stack Interchange north of Adams Street.
  • Southbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) ramp to eastbound Interstate 10 in West Valley closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 30) and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 31) for maintenance. Consider alternate routes, including exiting southbound Loop 101 to eastbound Thomas or McDowell roads and using southbound 91st or 83rd avenues to connect with eastbound I-10.
  • Interstate 10 narrowed to three lanes in both directions near Dysart Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 30) for message-sign foundation work. I-10 also narrowed to four lanes in both directions (HOV lanes closed) near Dysart Road from 5 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 31) for sign-structure construction. Allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely in work zone.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 closed temporarily (up to 30 minutes each time) in areas near Deer Valley and Jomax roads in north Phoenix from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 31) for overhead sign work. Allow extra travel time and be prepared for slowing or stopped traffic.
  • Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) off-ramps at Broadway Road narrowed to one lane at times in east Mesa from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 30) for utility work. Broadway Road right lanes closed in both directions at Loop 202. Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

ADOT plans and constructs new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements as part of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region. The primary funding source for regional freeway improvements is a half-cent sales tax approved by county voters in 2004. More information about ADOT projects and the regional plan is available at azdot.gov/PhoenixMetro.
