Freeway-improvement projects will require restrictions in the Phoenix area this weekend (Jan. 22-25). The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends drivers plan ahead, consider alternate routes or adjust travel schedules and use caution in work zones while the following restrictions are in place:

  • Broadway Road narrowed to one lane in each direction at Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in Mesa from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 24) for pavement repairs. Loop 202 on- and off-ramps at Broadway Road will remain open with lane restrictions in place. Consider alternate east-west routes, including Apache Trail (Main Street)or Southern Avenue.
  • Interstate 10 narrowed to three lanes in both directions near Dysart Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 23) for sign-structure construction. I-10 also narrowed to four lanes in both directions (HOV lanes closed) near Dysart Road from 5 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 24) for sign-structure construction. Allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely in work zone.
  • Northbound State Route 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 in northeast Phoenix closed overnight from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 23) for bridge work. Drivers can exit and use westbound Union Hills Drive to northbound Cave Creek Road to connect with westbound Loop 101.
  • Southbound State Route 51 on-ramp at Thomas Road closed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 23) for utility-related work at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Use alternate routes, including the southbound SR 51 on-ramp at Indian School Road.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 off-ramp at 19th Avenue closed from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 23) for pavement repairs. Use alternate routes, including the northbound I-17 off-ramps at Seventh Avenue or Buckeye Road.
  • Southbound Interstate 17 closed temporarily (for up to 30 min. each time) at Dixileta Drive in north Phoenix and eastbound Loop 303 also closed temporarily two miles west of I-17 from 12:01 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 23) for overhead sign-structure work. Allow extra travel time and use caution due to slowing or stopped traffic.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 closed temporarily (for up to 30 min. each time) near Deer Valley Road or Jomax Road from 12:01 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 24) for overhead sign-structure work. Allow extra travel time and use caution due to slowing or stopped traffic.

The primary funding source for regional freeway improvements is a half-cent sales tax approved by county voters in 2004. More information about ADOT projects and the regional plan is available at
