Maricopa County flash flood watch through 10 p.m. Wednesday

A flash flood watch is in place through 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22. There is potential for flash flooding across northern Maricopa County and local urban flooding through the Phoenix corridor, according to the Flood Control District of Maricopa County.
Several smaller shortwave disturbances are rotating across south-central Arizona providing the necessary moisture and lift to initiate widespread showers and thunderstorms. The first shortwave moved across central Arizona this afternoon. A second disturbance is expected later this evening through tomorrow afternoon. The primary concern from now through Wednesday evening will be the threat for periods of heavy rainfall and the potential for localized flash flooding as bands of showers and thunderstorms move across southcentral Arizona. Conditions will be monitored closely and further updates will be issued accordingly. For frequently asked questions about storms, visit: www.fcd.maricopa.gov/faq.aspx.
