CAC community wind ensemble performs April 21

The Central Arizona Community Wind Ensemble will present “A Festive Occasion” beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 21. The concert will be held at the Pence Center for the Visual and Performing Arts on the Signal Peak Campus of Central Arizona College, 8470 N. Overfield Road in Coolidge. There is no admission charge.

This joint band concert will feature the Florence High School Concert Band and the Central Arizona Community Wind Ensemble consisting of CAC students, high school students, area community members and music educators.

Conducted by Professor Rick Moore, the 60-member Central Arizona Community Wind Ensemble will present a celebration of festive sounds.

To begin the celebration the band will perform John William’s “Olympic Fanfare and Theme.” Some of the other musical selections will include: a celebration of the Kentucky Derby titled “Derby Day,” John Philip Sousa’s “Free Lance March” and the beautiful chorale prelude, “Thus Do You Fare, My Jesus” penned by Alfred Reed. The centerpiece of their program will be “Havendance” a rhythmic composition by David Holsinger. Laura Wolfe will be the guest conductor of the ensemble conducting “Adirondack Festival Overture.”

The Florence High Concert Band is a 24-member ensemble under the leadership of David Vosler. They will perform “Amparito Roca,” Frank Ticheli’s rendition of “Shenandoah,” “Highbridge Excursion” and will conclude with John Phillip Sousa’s “Free Lance March.”

Prior to the concert the CAC Art Department will be holding its annual Student Art Show in the lobby of the Pence Center. The show will begin at 4 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m.
