Consolidation update from FUSD/CUSD

In November, the voters in the Florence Unified School District Boundaries, the Coolidge Unified School District Boundaries, and the San Tan Valley Transfer Area voted (between 70 percent and 80 percent) in favor of consolidation.

Consolidation means that the San Tan Valley transfer area will be under the direction of the Florence Unified School District beginning July 1. This means that San Tan Heights Elementary School, Mountain Vista Middle School and San Tan Foothills High School will run and operate as member schools of the Florence Unified School District.

Beginning July 1, San Tan Heights Elementary School will become San Tan Heights Kindergarten-8 School. Mountain Vista Middle School will remain closed for one year and the available space will be leased. San Tan Foothills High School will return to a grade nine to 12 format.

In the month of January the district:
•hired the planning principal
•Proposed new boundaries to the school board
•Created a strategic plan to foster a smooth transition
•Reached out to Coolidge to find common practices
•Set a district calendar for next year

The Queen Creek Independent is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
