FUSD announces principal to oversee consolidation

The Florence Unified School District announced that Dr. Tim Richard will be returning to FUSD, pending board approval, as the planning principal for the newly consolidated Coolidge Unified School District schools in San Tan Valley. This is a vital position to ensure a successful and smooth transition of the three schools, especially the over 130 faculty and staff members and over 1,000 students into FUSD.

On Nov. 3, the voters in three communities (Coolidge, Florence and San Tan Valley) approved the consolidation of three schools in San Tan Valley (San Tan Heights Elementary School, Mountain Vista Middle School and San Tan Foothills High School) as well as, over 40 percent of CUSD district in San Tan Valley into the Florence Unified School District. These schools will be formally incorporated to FUSD beginning July 1.

Dr. Richard has been in  administrative positions from EVIT, Scottsdale USD, Florence High School, Globe High School, Westwood High School (Mesa), to back at FUSD- Poston Butte High School for the two years (2013-15). In the two years at PBHS, Dr. Richard was able to change the school’s culture and increased state test scores among other achievements. In 2015, under his leadership, Poston Butte High School was named an “A+ School of Excellence” by the Arizona Education Foundation.

“The Florence Unified School District’s superintendency is proud to recommend to our Board Dr. Tim Richard to be the planning principal for the newly consolidated schools. FUSD has been a part of Dr. Richard’s successful leadership journey. We know him and trust he will ensure a smooth transition for the three schools in the CUSD San Tan Valley transfer area to FUSD,” Dr. Fuller said.
