GPA teacher wins farm bureau award

Sarahbeth Belvado, a K-6 Special Education teacher at Gateway Polytechnic Academy, has won the Arizona Farm Bureau Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture award for 2016.

As part of this award she was nominated for the 2016 National Teacher of the Year where they select five teachers from the nation to highlight at the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference each summer. The 2016 conference will be held in Arizona and Ms. Belvado will be presenting a workshop on GPA’s successful “Steam into Agriculture” event and how any school can implement the educational curriculum and event. Ms. Belvado won a scholarship to cover her costs of attending the 2016 conference.

Ms. Belvado has also won two scholarships from the Arizona’s Women Committee and last year she was one of 10 teachers selected nationwide to be awarded the White-Reinhardt Scholarship from American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.
She just recently was also notified that GPA was selected for a $1,500 grant to expand their edible school garden.
