The J.O. Combs Unified School District continues to partner with Banner Ironwood in a Student of the Month program which recognizes one student every month from each of its schools. For the month of March, Sharon Lind, chief executive officer at Banner Ironwood Medical Center, presented each student with a Certificate of Special Recognition. The following students were recognized for demonstrating the character trait of responsibility. Lindsey Overy, Combs High School, 12th grade 12; Leann Day, J.O. Combs Middle School, eighth grade; Mia Darby, Combs Traditional Academy, Kindergarten; Keira Van Hoose, Ellsworth Elementary, Kindergarten (not pictured); Ella Stewart, Harmon Elementary, sixth grade; Giselle Corona, Ranch Elementary, Kindergarten; and Kenli Clare, Simonton Elementary, third grade. There is a selection process in place where students are recognized for the various pillars of the Character Counts Program which include responsibility, trustworthiness, citizenship, caring, respect and fairness. This presentation takes place each month at the regular governing board meeting.

The Queen Creek Independent is mailed each month to 35,000 homes.
