Students at Williams Field H.S. in Gilbert walk out in support of principal

Students at Williams Field High School in Gilbert walked out of class Friday morning in support of their principal, Dr. Terri Wattawa.

Some parents said Wattawa was being forced out and resigned.

Parents, students and teachers have been signing a petition to reject Wattawa’s resignation and reinstate her.

“Her loss to our district would be immeasurable,” the petition states.

Higley Unified School District is reportedly holding a board meeting at 6 p.m.

Statement from the Higley Unified School District:

“During 3rd hour today several students gathered in the WFHS courtyard to hold a peaceful demonstration. Students respectfully returned to their classrooms. Based upon the students statements, it appears they are aware that the Board is going to be taking action tonight on the Principal’s letter of resignation.”
