Queen Creek celebrates holidays with festival, parade

Queen Creek celebrated the upcoming holiday season with its 34th Annual Holiday Festival and Parade Dec. 3 in the Town Center. The daylong celebration was a joint partnership of Kiwanis Club of Queen Creek and Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce. About 250 volunteers manned the event and its many activities. More than 10,000 people visited the festival area, which was filled with 127 food and craft vendors; a three-day carnival; the town’s 18-foot-tall Christmas tree, which was lit at 6:15 p.m.; and a kids zone with bounce houses, a petting zoo and crafting areas for children.

The afternoon parade featured over 60 entries, which were reviewed by a panel of judges. The winners were: Open Division, first place: AZ Extreme Terrain Search and Rescue; runner-up, Odyssey Services Corp. Band Division: first place: Queen Creek High School; runner-up, Combs High School. Nonprofit Division: first place, Desert Mountain Elementary School; runner-up, Newell Barney Junior High Cheer and Honor Society. Youth Division: first place, Dance Connection 2; runner-up, Freestyle Dance Company. Pooper Scooper Division: first place, Canyon State Academy; runner-up, Queen Creek 4-H. Youth Equestrian: first place, Canyon State Academy; runner-up, Queen Creek 4-H. Open Equestrian: first place, Roots N’ Boots Queen Creek Royalty; runner-up, Queen Creek Barrel Racing Association.
