2nd hiring event for TJ Maxx Queen Creek scheduled for Jan. 29-30, Feb. 1-3

A second hiring event for the new T.J. Maxx department store in Queen Creek will begin Jan. 29.

TJX Companies Inc., the company that operates the T.J. Maxx and Marshall department stores, is accepting applications from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 29-30 and Feb. 1-3 at its new store, next to the Ross store in the Queen Creek Marketplace. The marketplace is at 21566 S. Ellsworth Loop Road, on the southwest corner of Ellsworth Loop and Rittenhouse roads. T.J. Maxx occupies 23,045 square feet of the building vacated by Sports Chalet.

The company is hiring about 100 full- and part-time employees, ranging from sales associates to store coordinators, for the new store in the Queen Creek Marketplace, store manager Patty Goldammer said during a phone interview. The starting pay is $9 per hour, depending on the position and an applicant’s experience, she said. Applicants must be at least 16, she said.

People should come prepared with resumes and to have an on-site interview, she said. The company will conduct background checks over the next few days to determine who is eligible to be hired, Ms. Goldammer said.

The upcoming hiring event was scheduled for Jan. 29-30 only; however, the dates were extended to include Feb. 1-3 because the response has been good, Ms. Goldammer said.

An earlier hiring event took place Jan. 26-28 in Mesa.

The store will hold its grand opening 8 a.m.-8 p.m. March 6, Ms. Goldammer said.

T.J. Maxx was founded in 1976, and together with Marshalls, forms The Marmaxx Group or Marmaxx, the largest off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S., according to the company website.

T.J. Maxx launched its e-commerce site, tjmaxx.com, in September 2013. At the end of 2014, it had 1,119 stores in 49 states and Puerto Rico. The estimated, long-term growth potential of The Marmaxx Group, including T.J. Maxx and Marshalls, is 3,000 stores.

The average size of a T.J. Maxx store is approximately 29,000 square feet.
