Editor’s note: Jake Ouimette has been found safe, according to a Tweet from Officer Chris Hegstrom, a spokesman for Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department. The 17-year-old autistic boy was reported missing from Queen Creek around 5:40 p.m. last night. Click here for more details.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Queen Creek is asking for help from the public in locating a missing 17-year-old Queen Creek resident, Jake Ouimette. He was last seen around 5:20 p.m. in the area of 20353 E. Avenida Del Valle, near Ocotillo and Hawes, Deputy Joaquin Enriquez, MCSO public information officer, said in an e-mailed response to questions.

The young man was wearing gray shorts and a blue shirt and was barefoot, according to a post on the town of Queen Creek’s Facebook page. He is about 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs about 245 pounds, Deputy Enriquez said.

MCSO is utilizing a helicopter, its search and rescue team and a search dog to locate the young man, according to Queen Creek Councilman Jeff Brown in a Facebook instant message response to the Queen Creek/San Tan Valley Independent.

MCSO asks that people who see the young man refrain from approaching him. The young man is autistic, according to Deputy Enriquez, and officials are afraid a stranger might scare Jake if he or she approaches him, Constance Halonen-Wilson, the town of Queen Creek public information officer, said in a phone interview tonight.

Instead, they should call MCSO’s non-emergency number immediately at 602-876-1011.
