The Queen Creek Town Council has approved a number of capital improvement program projects over the next several years as part of its Better Roads Ahead program.

Road construction can be inconvenient and frustrating, but is necessary to make needed infrastructure improvements, according to a press release. In an effort to offset some of the unavoidable nuisance, the town provides timely and up-to-date information.

There are currently several projects under construction:

•Ocotillo Road, from Crismon to 218th Place: Half-street improvements on the south side of Ocotillo Road include an additional eastbound lane, sidewalk and bike lanes. The project is anticipated to be complete by late September. Ocotillo Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction from 214th Place to 220 Street, with left turns prohibited at Crismon Road.

•Riggs Road, from Ellsworth Road to Hawes Road: The Maricopa County Department of Transportation is widening Riggs Road from three to five lanes. It is the first of five phases to be improved, from Recker to Meridian roads. The first phase is anticipated to be complete by late September.

•Ellsworth and Queen Creek roads intersection: The project will be completed in two phases. The first phase will include work along Old Ellsworth Road and Walnut Road, adding a cul-de-sac turnaround on Old Ellsworth Road, a new connector street and a landscape buffer separating Ellsworth Road and Ellsworth Loop. The second phase will realign the intersection of Ellsworth and Queen Creek roads to modify the compound curve. The first phase is anticipated to be complete by late September.

•Ocotillo Road, between Ellsworth Loop and Heritage Loop: Improvements include expanding Ocotillo Road from two to four lanes with a center turn lane, curb, gutter, landscaping, bike lanes and sidewalks. The project also includes improvements to the intersection of Ocotillo and Ellsworth roads and a new traffic signal at Ocotillo Road and Heritage Loop.

Several major road improvement projects have been completed over the past several months including, according to the release:

•Ellsworth Road from Ryan to Germann roads.

•Ocotillo Road from Power to Recker roads.

•Rittenhouse Road from Sossaman Road to Queen Creek Marketplace.

•The intersection of Sossaman and Chandler Heights

In addition to completed projects and road improvement projects currently under construction, several projects are in the design phase.
