Maricopa County holds stormwater pollution poster contest

AZ-EV Maricopa County logo for QC
In the Phoenix metropolitan area, stormwater runoff is carried by curbs or gutters into storm drains.

Storm drains are separate from the sanitary sewer and do not lead to a treatment plant. Stormwater runoff and any pollutants that are picked up are discharged into our washes, rivers, and lakes without being treated.

To help spread awareness about stormwater pollution, the Maricopa County Environmental Services Stormwater Quality Program, with the support of the Arizona State Parks, Children’s Museum of Phoenix, Desert Botanical Gardens, Maricopa County Library District, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation, and Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium is conducting the seventh annual Maricopa County Stormwater poster contest.

The poster contest is open to any third- through sixth-grade student in Maricopa County. Students and teachers are encouraged to visit the website to learn more about stormwater pollution and for ideas to create and submit posters supporting the theme: “Help Sam Make Clean Storm Drains Happen.”

Send submissions to: Maricopa County Environmental Services Department, Stormwater Quality Program Poster Contest, 1001 N. Central Ave. Ste 301, Phoenix AZ 85004. All entries must be postmarked by March 25.
