Maricopa County transportation honored as ’employer of the year’

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation has received the “Employer of the Year” Award from the Women’s Transportation Seminar Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter.

The award was presented by Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Gallardo at the WTS annual scholarship and awards ceremony on Saturday, March 12, according to a press release.

“I am extremely proud of the department of transportation and its leadership for receiving this award, and for all they have done to promote the advancement of women at the county,” said Supervisor Gallardo in the release.

With 11 members of the WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter, MCDOT was recognized for its participation in the organization as well as its internal efforts to engage women in the MCDOT workforce, including a recently launched pilot mentorship program.

“The mentorship program has helped to engage not only the women in our agency, but all employees who are looking for that additional guidance and help to further their careers,” said MCDOT Director Jennifer Toth.  “I am honored that WTS has chosen to recognize us for these efforts.”

The WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter was formed in 1985 with the goal of creating an environment that encourages the advancement of women in the transportation industry.
