Some rain possible in the evening May 18

Some showers and thunderstorms will try to move south onto the lower deserts into the afternoon/evening hours, according to the Flood Control District of Maricopa County’s forecast.

“For (May 18) morning plan on mostly sunny skies across the valley with possible lingering shower activity across some of the higher terrain locales. Daytime highs will climb into the 86˚F-89˚F range around the Valley. Similar to (May 17), winds will generally remain in the 5-10 mph range with gustier conditions limited to areas near any storm activity. A combination of daytime heating, colder temperatures aloft and remnant moisture will likely lead to an active day across the higher terrain areas north and east of the Valley. Some of these showers and t-storms will try to move south onto the lower deserts into the afternoon/evening hours. Rain totals will be spotty in coverage with perhaps a few moderate downpours and gusty outflows associated with any stronger activity. Conditions will clear overnight and a warming/drying trend will get underway for Thursday with highs returning to 90s, ” D. Henz of the flood control district wrote in a weather outlook for Maricopa County.
