Upper 80s temperatures expected May 2

Daytime highs in the upper 70s we saw yesterday will quickly rebound into the mid to upper 80s today before the 90s return for Tuesday through Thursday, according to the Flood Control District of Maricopa County’s forecast.

“The month of April ended with a bang as areas of showers and some isolated t-storms rolled through portions of the Valley on Saturday lending to some measureable rainfall totals. Mild conditions on that backside of that disturbance will be short-lived though as high pressure quickly builds across the region early this week. Daytime highs in the upper 70s we saw yesterday will quickly rebound into the mid to upper 80s today before the 90s return for Tuesday through Thursday. Unfortunately, model guidance is showing the hottest temperatures of the year so far on Wednesday with highs flirting near the 100˚F mark. Looking ahead, another disturbance is likely to end the work week which would bring another welcomed cooling trend, breezy conditions and slight chances for showers/rain, ” D. Henz of the flood control district wrote in a weather outlook for Maricopa County.

“For today plan on mainly sunny skies throughout the day across the lower deserts. Daytime temperatures will rebound into the 85˚F-88˚F range around the Valley with low 80s across the higher terrain zones. Variable winds will generally remain in the 3-7 mph range with no gusts of any consequence. Lingering moisture and daytime heating will likely lead to a few showers across the higher terrain of central Arizona, though activity should remain well north of the county. Overnight low temperatures will dip into the mid 60s under mostly clear skies and light winds.”
