The Newell Barney Buccaneers eighth-grade baseball team finished an undefeated 13-0 season with a 7-4 victory over Casteel High School in the East Valley Conference first-quarter season championship game on Monday, Sept. 26.

The Bucs found ways to win games all season and had to battle back from a 5-0 deficit against Queen Creek Middle School in the semi-finals in order to reach the championship game.

Many of the boys on this year’s championship team were also on the undefeated seventh-grade team that won the championship last year.

“Those boys have a record of 25 wins and 0 losses in their middle-school baseball careers, which is truly amazing,” Cheryl Webb, an administrative assistant at Newell Barney Middle School, wrote on her Facebook page. “The EVC is a very competitive league and to go through two seasons without a single loss speaks volumes about the hard work and dedication that the boys displayed each year. Coach Pilon and Coach Olson are proud of these boys and the effort they put in all season. With both Queen Creek Middle School and Newell Barney having great seasons, the future is bright for Queen Creek High School baseball.”

Newell Barney serves students in the sixth-eighth grades. It is at 24937 S. Sossaman Road in Queen Creek.
