Kiwanis Club of Queen Creek distributes dictionaries to area 3rd-graders

The Kiwanis Club of Queen Creek is busy with its next project. Starting in October and continuing through November our club is distributing more than 2,000 dictionaries to third-grade students in more than 20 area schools.

Spearheaded by Jim Skiotes and Maria Silva, several of our members — including Troy Young, Rose Ann Dodson, Sandy McGeorge, past member Bob Whaley and myself — are visiting each third-grade class to hand out the dictionaries. Each student receives his or her own dictionary and puts his or her name in it. The teachers also receive a dictionary and many of them utilize those dictionaries throughout the year for reference and even instruction.
Each year our Kiwanis Club spends between $2,000 and $3,000 on this project. It is one of our most rewarding projects and we receive many thank you notes and even hugs for our efforts. The money for this and most of our other projects comes in part from the clothing donation boxes located at the schools that are so generously supported by the public. Without this source of income it would not be possible to do many of our projects that support our motto, “Serving the children of the world,” Please consider joining our club and helping us make a difference.
